To All The Boys: Always and Forever (2021)
The third movie of the To All The Boys trilogy is now available on Netflix! It’s Lara Jean’s senior year of high school and, as soon as she comes home from a joyful family trip to Korea, she has to make a choice considering her future. Going to college with or without Peter?
If you want your heart melted, I have a suggestion to make! The third movie of this trilogy is here to settle a worthy finale for Lara Jean’s (Lana Condor) and Peter’s (Noah Centineo) cute, CUTE love story. After being a fake couple in the first movie, that surprisingly -or not so much- ended up being in love, only to have their relationship tested on the next one, we now watch Lara Jean facing a future-changing dilemma: Barcley or New York University? Actually, the question is Peter or New York? Once again, you can enjoy funny (Kitty, the youngest sister of the family, is as awesome as we knew her), sweet, or even moving moments. Our beloved boy, Peter, proving once more that he is here for the real game. I almost felt proud of him!
The Half of It (2020)
A student named Ellie Chu (Leah Lewis) makes money out of her schoolmates by writing their essays. She is a not-so-popular but talented teenager, living on the city’s train station with her widower father. However, her life is about to change when Paul Munsky (Daniel Diemer), one of her classmates, asks her to write a love letter on his behalf, for his major crush, Aster Flores (Alexxis Lemire). There is a problem, though! She is in love with Aster, too!
If you are looking for a different teen romance movie, you reached your destination! At the beginning of the film, Ellie tells us that «This is not a love story». By the end of it, you will realize it is all about love! The love between friends, heterosexual love, homosexual love, even father-daughter love. It is a really tender, witty, and moving film, as we watch the conflict a young girl goes through, trying to find out what she actually feels. Paul or Aster is not the usual high school jog and a pretty girl. He has a heart of gold and she is more spiritual than most popular girls we’ve seen in a movie! It’s a relaxing teen romance movie, different from most of this genre found on Netflix.
All The Bright Places (2020)
This movie is about two troubled teenagers, Violet (Elle Fanning) and Theodore Finch (Justice Smith), facing mental illness due to their traumatic experiences of the past. They come closer when they are being assigned a school project. As they try to find the most beautiful places to visit, they try each other’s limits as they embark on a love story. Their romance, though, is going to look a lot like themselves. Tense and uneasy.
The story is based on a novel by Jennifer Niven. It’s a tender love story, as we watch two young people trying to heal their wounds holding hands. Most of the time, we see Finch pulling Violet towards the «light», while he is actually struggling with a lot more darkness within him. It’s a sweet and heartbreaking film, trying to handle mental illnesses in a quite realistic, but caring way. You can actually enjoy the teen romance of the film, but we are dealing with a tough one this time. It’s going to leave you with a bitter-sweet taste, as it concludes with an optimistic atmosphere of healing and true love.
The Kissing Booth 2 (2020)
After the successful first movie, Kissing Booth 2 recently landed on the platform. It shows us how this cute, kind of unexpected romance between the two teenagers evolved. This time we find Noah (Jacob Elordi) away from home, as he went to college in Boston. Harvard for what it is! After spending a romantic summer together, the couple is now apart, trying to maintain their relationship. Elle’s (Joey King) new schoolmate is going to bring clouds to this beautiful love story…
In this sequel, you can see how these beloved characters are evolving. Noah’s brother, Lee, and his amazing friendship with Elle, is one of the most joyful parts of the film. The kissing booth the two friends run in the first movie played a significant role back then, and it still does. For a moment there, you are going to consider the main love story of the film as doomed. Especially when Elle seems to have a bit of a crush on her new classmate, Marko, while she loses trust in her boyfriend. But, as the previous film of Kissing Booth series taught us, true love conquers all!!!
Alex Strangelove (2018)
Alex Truelove (Daniel Doheny) seems to have planned everything. He is an excellent student, president of his senior class, and with a matching girlfriend, Claire (Madeline Weinstein). Sex is, as usual, the hottest topic of conversation in their highschool. Alex, though, seems to feel humiliated by the fact that he is still a virgin. So, he and his girlfriend will try to change that. The thing is… In the meantime, he meets a young gay man, Elliott (Antonio Marziale), whose charm takes him over, driving him on a sexual journey, while he tries to find out who he really is.
Alex Strangelove is a movie that puts in the center a teenager’s sexual exploration, with a good proportion of romantic and funny scenes. The fact that Alex tries to do what he is «supposed to», while his heart says differently, is probably an accurate depiction of a young kid’s struggle to find himself when it comes to his sexual preferences. The funny scenes of the film, sometimes maybe extravagant, make it lighter, giving you a good-99-minutes of fun and teen romance, all at the same time!
