Tangled (2010)

Review: Tangled sticks closely to the familiar Disney fairytale template. Based on Rapunzel by the Grimm Brothers, the film follows a young captive princess with magical hair. Her life changes, or as she sings “begins” when she meets a runaway thief.
Tangled has everything we have come to expect from a Disney Princess movie. That said, it is not dull or unfunny. The characters are flawed but likable and we have at last a worthy villain with a catchy song; something that was missing in the later Disney films. The animation in this film deserves extra praise. As one of the first 3D animated films by Disney, the animators had a real challenge ahead of them. However, they came through, with well-choreographed action and stunning landscapes.
We might not have a new Beauty and the Beast with Tangled, but we certainly have a truly enjoyable movie.
